ACTION ALERT: Families of children with disabilities all have this in common

News & Updates March 17th, 2017

Dear Families and Friends of Raising Special Kids:

I don’t know if you’ve been following the healthcare information Raising Special Kids has been sending out. Families of children with disabilities represent every side of the political spectrum, but there is something very important that we all have in common. The effort to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA) now includes provisions to cut and cap Medicaid services.

Medicaid is the largest insurer of children with disabilities and special health care needs.

Whether you call it DDD, ALTCS, EPSDT, HCBS, CRS, CMDP, AHCCCS, or different names, the funding source for all of these programs is Medicaid.

If Medicaid is changed to a system of block grants and caps, it is very likely Arizona will need to create enrollment limitations, reduced services, waiting lists, and will lose some of the provider agencies that we all rely on.

Many people, including elected representatives, do not understand what Medicaid means for children with disabilities and their families. We hope you are contacting the Governor’s office, and your Congressman or Congresswoman and telling them what Medicaid services mean to your family and child.

With appreciation,

Joyce Millard Hoie, MPA
